Ethical Guidelines
As a member of the ICF I subscribe to their ethical guidelines and code of practice - www.coachesfederation.org
Below are some that are particularly important to me:
- I hold confidentiality as sacred and an essential element for creating a safe and courageous space for my clients
- I will be honest, open and clear to my clients and potential clients around what my role in the coaching relationship is - what I am and what I am not
- I will be clear with my clients around my expectations of them in the coaching relationship
- I will be in integrity always
- I only take on clients that I know I can work with and am passionate about and committed to their bigger selves
- I will remain vigilant in the coaching relationship that the coaching is working for both myself and the client and will continue to redesign alliances where appropriate and not be afraid to terminate coaching relationships when I know it is the right thing to do
- If I am brought into coach a client by someone else (eg their organisation) I will have clear communications with the sponsor and the client around how the relationship will be handled, the importance of confidentiality and what I am willing and not willing to do in terms of reporting back
- I never make my clients uncomfortable in a way that is not of service to them - I will always treat them with respect and always hold them as naturally creative, resourceful and whole
